Your body does so much for you. It moves you through busy days, packed schedules, workouts, and sometimes stressful moments. And while it’s important to support your body with nutrient-rich, nourishing foods, how often do you stop to give yourself time to pause and reset?

One of the simplest ways to do that is with a detox bath. I’ve made this a standard practice when I want an incredible night’s sleep, after a workout when my muscles feel tired, or anytime my body simply needs a reset. It has become such a staple in our house that even after a hard soccer practice, game, or tournament, my 12-year-old asks for his bath!
Think of it as a 20-minute whole-body reset, in which minerals, heat, and skin-loving ingredients work together to help you decompress, recover from the day, deeply moisturize your skin, and create the perfect transition into deep, restorative sleep.
The best part is it doesn’t require expensive or hard-to-find ingredients. You likely have everything you need already sitting in your pantry or on a bathroom shelf.
My Detox Bath Power-Up
Add to a warm bath:
- 2 cups Epsom salts
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1–2 tablespoons organic coconut oil
- A few drops of your favorite organic essential oil
Soak for about 20 minutes and give yourself permission to actually slow down.
While you soak, try practicing mindful breathing by inhaling through your nose for 3 seconds, holding your breath for 5 seconds, and exhaling through your mouth for 6 seconds. It’s a full nervous-system reset, giving you a chance to step out of “go mode.”
The coconut oil leaves your skin incredibly soft, while the warm mineral water makes this feel less like a regular bath and more like a full-body recovery ritual.
Why I Love It
Mineral-rich relaxation

Epsom salts are a naturally occurring mineral compound made up of magnesium and sulfate, and they have been a popular addition to baths for generations. Combined with warm water, you get a soothing soak that feels especially wonderful when you’re tired, tense, or overworked.
The warmth itself is part of what makes this ritual so relaxing. As you settle into the bath, tight muscles begin to loosen, and the peace and quiet gives you the perfect opportunity to focus on your breathing and let go of the physical tension that builds throughout the day.
This is one of my favorite rituals after Pilates, running, or a particularly active day. Finishing off a physically demanding day with a warm bath helps you let go of the tension you’ve been carrying and gently transition into nighttime.
Post-workout recovery
Intense exercise can be invigorating, but it can also leave your body feeling tired, tense, and sore. A warm bath is a great way to wind down after a demanding workout, as the heat increases blood flow to the skin and helps muscles relax, while the intentional quiet time gives your nervous system a chance to reset.
After a demanding workout or long run, think of this as your cue to stop, replenish and recover. And I like to follow my post-workout bath by drinking water with a scoop of Acid-Kicking Minerals. It provides magnesium, calcium, sodium, and potassium to help replenish the minerals your body loses through sweat during workouts.
Better sleep
This may be my favorite reason to do it.
A warm bath before bed helps create a natural transition from a busy day into sleep. Your body warms while you soak and then gradually cools afterward, which works beautifully with the body’s natural nighttime rhythm.
Dim the lights, put your phone away, add lavender, and make the bath part of your evening routine. For even deeper, more restorative sleep, give Acid-Kicking Magnesium supplements a try. This triple-magnesium formula is highly absorbable and supports a calm nervous system and healthy sleep cycles.
Healthy aging from the basics
We often make anti-aging far more complicated than it needs to be. Some of the most important foundations of healthy aging are also the simplest:
- Quality sleep
- Circulation
- Movement
- Recovery
- Hydration
- Minerals
- Stress management
- Protecting the skin barrier
This bath touches several of those areas at once. The warmth encourages you to slow down and relax as part of a consistent bedtime routine, and the coconut oil helps moisturize your skin. And perhaps most importantly, it creates space for recovery. Recovery is increasingly important as we age, because giving our bodies the time and resources to recover helps us continue doing the things we love.
So rather than thinking of it as another “anti-aging treatment,” think of it as a ritual that supports the habits that help you feel strong, rested, capable, and function at your best as you age.
Softer, healthier-looking skin
Organic coconut oil is my secret ingredient here. It turns an ordinary mineral bath into a moisturizing skin treatment, leaving your skin feeling incredibly soft when you step out of the tub.
Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids that help soften dry skin and support the skin’s natural moisture barrier. This makes it especially helpful after a day in the sun, a workout or travel, or during those colder, drier months when skin always feels a little thirsty.
One important note: coconut oil can make your tub and the floor around it slippery. Take your time getting out, and give the tub a quick rinse afterward to prevent any buildup.
A nervous-system reset

There is another benefit that has nothing to do with adding more ingredients.
Twenty quiet minutes. No phone. No emails. No rushing.
We so often find ourselves moving from one thing to the next. It may feel like there’s no time to slow down and give yourself the space to pause, but intentionally creating a moment like this for yourself gives your mind and body a chance to shift out of “go mode” and find a calmer state at the end of the day.
Warm water, dim lighting and a few intentional minutes alone can be one of the simplest ways to create a feeling of calm in the middle of a very full life. You can also play calming music, meditate, practice deep breathing, or simply sit in silence. There’s no one perfect way to do it; the point is to give yourself permission to just be.
Customize Your Bath
I change the bath depending on what my body needs:
- Before bed: Lavender essential oil, low lights and a quiet room
- After exercise: Epsom salts, plenty of water before and water with Acid-Kicking Minerals afterward, and gentle stretching once I get out
- Morning reset: A comfortably warm bath with an uplifting citrus essential oil
You can also add fresh eucalyptus, rosemary or lavender, dry brush beforehand, play calming music, pray, meditate or simply enjoy twenty minutes of silence. Choose whatever helps you slow down and reconnect with your body for a truly restorative ritual.
Power It Up From the Inside Too
The bath is only half of my reset. What you put back into your body afterward can take the recovery, relaxation and sleep benefits to the next level.
That’s why I finish with Acid-Kicking Minerals + Acid-Kicking Magnesium.
Acid-Kicking Minerals combines four alkaline minerals in a fast-absorbing powder, including a balanced 1:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium and chelated magnesium. I especially love it after exercise or before bed to replenish minerals and support hydration, muscle recovery, digestion, steady energy and restful sleep.
Then I add Acid-Kicking Magnesium when I really want to power down. Its three forms of highly absorbable magnesium are designed to support the nervous system, relax tired muscles, ease tension and support deeper, more restorative sleep. It’s that final signal to my body: the work is done; now it’s time to recover.
So my ultimate nighttime ritual is incredibly simple:
Mineral bath. Magnesium. Minerals. Bed.
It is one of my favorite ways to finish a long day, support recovery and wake up feeling ready to do it all again!
