When people ask what I do to help keep my family healthy, they usually expect me to recommend an expensive supplement or some complicated wellness routine.
The truth is, many of my favorite wellness habits start with something much simpler...my spice cabinet.
Long before there were supplement aisles and wellness trends, herbs and spices were some of God's greatest gifts for nourishing the body. They were used to flavor food, support digestion, and promote everyday wellness using the incredible compounds found naturally in plants.
Of course, herbs aren't a replacement for medical care when it's needed. But I do believe that when we consistently nourish our bodies with real food, we're giving them the tools they were beautifully designed to thrive with.
Over the years, I've learned that healthy living isn't about perfection. It's about creating small daily habits that become part of everyday life. That's why I reach for these herbs almost every single week when I'm cooking for my kids, gathering friends around the table, or simply making a nourishing meal at home.
Ginger is my first choice for digestion

Fresh ginger is probably the herb I use most often. I'll grate it into homemade salad dressings, blend it into smoothies, simmer it in herbal tea, or add it to soups and stir fries.
It's long been valued for supporting healthy digestion and helping settle an uneasy stomach, which is one reason I love keeping it on hand year round.
Cardamom makes healthy food feel special
If you've never cooked with cardamom, you're missing one of the most beautiful warming spices.
I love adding a pinch to homemade chai, smoothies, or baked pears. It has a naturally sweet aroma that makes healthy recipes feel comforting without adding sugar.
Traditionally, cardamom has also been used to support healthy digestion and ease occasional bloating.
Cloves may be tiny, but they're incredibly powerful
Cloves are one of nature's richest sources of antioxidants, and I especially enjoy using them during the cooler months.
I'll add a few whole cloves to homemade broth or chai tea, where they bring warmth and incredible flavor.
A little goes a long way, but those little buds are packed with goodness.
Oregano deserves much more than pizza
Most people think of oregano as an Italian seasoning, but I use it all year long on roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, homemade soups, and Mediterranean inspired meals.
It's one of my favorite herbs because it adds bold flavor while naturally supporting overall wellness.
Thyme is one of the most underrated herbs

Fresh thyme makes almost everything taste better.
I love stirring it into soups, roasted vegetables, egg dishes, and homemade broths. During the colder months, I'll even steep fresh thyme into a simple herbal tea that's both comforting and soothing.
Cinnamon is one I never run out of
Cinnamon isn't just for the holidays.I add it to smoothies, chia pudding, homemade energy bites, and my morning chai. It adds natural sweetness while fitting beautifully into an anti inflammatory lifestyle.
Turmeric is worth finding ways to use
Turmeric has become one of the most researched spices for supporting a healthy inflammatory response.
I like adding it to soups, roasted vegetables, simple sauces, and occasionally to smoothies with a pinch of black pepper to help maximize absorption.
One of my favorite ways to enjoy several of these herbs together is with a simple homemade chai. I gently simmer filtered water with fresh ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and a black tea bag before adding unsweetened almond milk. It's warm, comforting, and one of my favorite afternoon rituals. When I want something a little more filling, I'll blend in a scoop of Acid Kicking Protein to create a creamy chai latte that's packed with clean plant based protein and keeps me satisfied for hours.
Moments like this remind me that wellness doesn't have to be complicated. It isn't about finding one miracle food or chasing the newest health trend. It's about the small choices we make every day. Choosing whole foods. Cooking more meals at home. Using herbs instead of heavily processed seasonings. Slowing down long enough to enjoy a nourishing meal or cup of tea with the people we love.
My Simple Spiced Chai Tea

One of my favorite ways to enjoy these spices together is with a simple homemade chai. The combination of ginger, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and turmeric creates a warming, aromatic tea that feels indulgent while supporting digestion and overall wellness.
Ingredients
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
- 2–3 whole cloves
- Splash of unsweetened almond milk
- Pinch of turmeric + black pepper (optional)
Directions
Simmer ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and water for 5–10 minutes. Strain, and finish with a splash of almond milk.
This simple blend brings together some of nature’s most treasured spices. Ginger and cardamom support digestion, cinnamon adds natural warmth and sweetness, cloves provide antioxidants, and turmeric helps support a healthy inflammatory response.
If you're looking for another simple way to support your wellness routine, one of my favorite daily essentials is our Acid Kicking D3 + K2. It combines highly absorbable plant based vitamin D3 with vitamin K2 to support immune health, healthy bones, muscle function, heart health, and overall vitality.
God has given us an incredible variety of foods to nourish our bodies. Sometimes better health doesn't begin with something new. Sometimes it begins by opening the kitchen cabinet and making the most of what has been there all along.
