Dr. Daryl’s Strategic Game Plan for Drinking Smarter this Summer
Cinco de Mayo (and summer drinking) is coming… 🌮🍹 But what if I told you, enjoying May 5th AND May 6th without a hangover and reflux is possible?!
You CAN enjoy the margaritas without waking up feeling like your throat is on fire, your head is pounding, and your gut is completely wrecked.
Let’s get strategic.
The Real Reason Alcohol Wrecks Your Body
Before we fix it, you need to understand what’s actually happening:
Alcohol:
- Increases acid production
- Relaxes your esophageal sphincter (hello reflux)
- Dehydrates your cells
- Disrupts blood sugar
- Feeds inflammation

Add in:
- Sugary mixers
- Greasy, processed foods
- Late-night eating
- Poor hydration
…and you’ve got the perfect storm for: relux, bloating, brain fog, and the dreaded hangover with little kids at home.
Your Cinco de Mayo Game Plan
1. Don’t drink on an empty stomach
This is the fastest way to spike blood sugar, irritate your stomach lining, and trigger reflux immediately.
Pre-game the RIGHT way:
Eat something high in healthy fats and protein, and low in acid, so that you can create a buffer for the alcohol.
Think:
- The Everything Smoothie: Load your body with nutrients before you deplete it!
- Avocado Bowl: Avocados are definitely on brand for Cinco de Mayo and packed with healthy fats to balance what’s to come…
- Chicken Tacos: These ones actually fuel your metabolism instead of ignoring it.
2. Upgrade your drink choices
Not all alcohol is created equal.
Worst offenders:
- Margaritas (extreme amounts of sugar)
- Beer (most acidic alcohol available)

Better options:
- Tequila
- Vodka (my go-to is Ciroc)
- Clean, low-sugar cocktails
BUT! All drinks MUST include 5 drops of Acid-Kicking Alcohol Alkalizer. Non-negotiable.
3. Hydration is your secret weapon
Alcohol depletes: electrolytes, minerals, and cellular hydration.
The general rule: 1 drink = 1 glass of water
But if you want to truly prevent relux, hangovers, and gut issues, you MUST drink a full glass of Acid-Kicking Minerals before and after drinking to prepare and restore your body.
4. Protect your gut to minimize the damage
Think of this like putting on armor.
Before you go out:
- Drink a glass of Acid-Kicking Greens with Gut Punch mixed in.
- Take 2 capsules of Acid-Kicking Magnesium and 1 of Acid-Kicking Black Seed Oil.
These help: buffer acidity, support detox pathways, and reduce inflammation.
You CAN have it all!
You don’t have to choose between having some fun adult bevvies with your friends and feeling good.
You can have BOTH.
Just be smart about it so that Seis de Mayo feels just as good!
