Seed Oils Are a Heartbreaker

Seed oils are a heartbreaker. Literally, they destroy your heart. 

This Valentine’s Week (one day of love isn’t enough around here), pick the bottles that will forever strengthen, support, and love your heart: Acid-Kicking Omega-3s (BOGO sale right now!), Acid-Kicking BLK Seed Oil, and Acid-Kicking Magnesium. First, let’s expose these toxic players: 

  • Sunflower oil
  • Canola oil (also called rapeseed)
  • Safflower oil
  • Soybean oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Cotton seed oil

Note: “Vegetable oil” is often interchanged with “seed oil.” Also, don’t be fooled by the terms “vegetable” and “seed” - they are even worse for you than sugar. The above are the most common types of seed oils that snake their way around common “healthy” grocery items such as hummus (swap for my 5-minute hummus recipe), plant-based meat, margarine, salad dressing (swap for my favorite salad dressing), and processed snacks. 

It’s time to break up with seed oils

Get this—seed oils didn’t exist until the early 1900s, and neither did most heart diseases. Now, heart disease is a leading cause of death. 

The progression of seed oils was well captured in an issue of Popular Science in 1894 describing cottonseed oil: “What was garbage in 1860, was fertilizer in 1870, cattle feed in 1880, and table food in 1890.” I can’t even fathom how horrified people living in the 1800s would be if they learned about the POISON that is snuck into our food in 2024. I mean, sugar currently goes by 62 aliases

Here’s why seed oils are just as harmful as CIGARETTES

Seed oils are drenched in damaging Omega-6 fatty acids (discover the difference between Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids), which contain linoleic acid that creates highly toxic and inflammatory byproducts when heated. They are also extracted from GMO plant seeds that have been heavily sprayed with glyphosate, the active ingredient in RoundUP. 

Like smoking, the toxins from seed oil consumption also induce oxidative stress and insulin resistance, which damage your arterial endothelial walls and increase oxidized LDL—a common cause of heart disease.

Seed oils now make up 86% of all added fat in the Standard American Diet (SAD). Read that again. No wonder heart disease has tragically swept through the hearts of our country. 

What is even sadder is that the American Heart Association has been paid off to promote seed oils and recommend them over animal fats. Another reason you should always have your detective cap on and not trust everything you read. Just like you should always inspect the ingredients in the back of the bottle, when researching, dig into who FUNDED the study. The pretty covers are often colored with great marketing—AKA false advertisement.

Cooking oil

Throw out all seed oils and swap them for avocado oil or coconut oil (best for high temps) and extra virgin olive oil. These are all healthy fats that:

Salad dressing

The 1:1 Ratio

Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acid ratio: PRO-inflammatory to ANTI-inflammatory. It should be 1:1. This is the single most important ratio in your body you NEED to know about. 

In today’s world, you can’t escape Omega-6s PRO-inflammatory fatty acids. The average American’s ratio is a disturbing 25:1! 

The pathology that creates heart disease is the same pathology that drives many chronic diseases. Your body was designed to repair itself, but it was not built to handle poisoning from excessive amounts of artificial sweeteners, seed oils, dairy, sugar, stress, etc. Once your heart and brain reach a certain level of damage, it reduces its ability to repair itself—unless it gets help.
