Dr. Daryl's Protocol for Taking GLP-1s & Successfully Getting Off Them

The word “GLP-1s” is everywhere these days—your group chat, billboards, Instagram ads, poolside convos, and even your doctor’s office.

And for good reason. People are losing weight, blood sugar is improving, and many are finally seeing progress after years of immense frustration and desperation. It’s become a miracle injection that you can now even easily get in pill form.

But here's the question nobody is asking: What happens when you stop taking them?

and what do they actually do to your body?

If a medication helps you lose weight but doesn't address the underlying reasons you gained weight in the first place, you're setting yourself up for a frustrating cycle of dependency. That's why I believe GLP-1s should be viewed as a bridge…not a destination.

Disclaimer: Before we get started, I want to make this super clear: I'm not anti-medication. For someone struggling with obesity or metabolic dysfunction, GLP-1s can be an incredibly valuable tool. What I am against is using them long-term (1-month and longer) without simultaneously rebuilding your body and changing the habits that created the problem.

If you want lasting results, your focus cannot simply be on eating less. It also has to be about:

  • Restoring digestive function
  • Rebuilding mineral reserves
  • Supporting metabolism
  • Creating an internal environment in which the body naturally seeks to maintain a healthy weight.

Step 1: Understand What GLP-1s Are Actually Doing

GLP-1 medications work partly by slowing gastric emptying. In simple terms, food stays in your stomach longer.

That delayed emptying signals fullness to the brain, reducing appetite and helping people eat less. But that shift can also be problematic.

When food sits too long in the stomach, digestion slows. Fermentation can increase. Gas builds up. Pressure rises. This is one reason we're seeing more people experience acid reflux, bloating, nausea, and digestive discomfort while taking these medications.

The answer isn't to simply suppress symptoms. The answer is to support the digestive system while the medication is doing its job.

Step 2: Protect Digestion While Using GLP-1s & Getting Off Of Them.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is assuming that because you're eating less, digestion no longer matters.

In reality, digestion matters more than ever.

Here is what I suggest:

  • Start by eating smaller meals and stopping before you're full. Overloading a stomach that's already emptying slowly is like adding more cars to a traffic jam.
  • Avoid eating within three hours of bedtime. If food is still sitting in the stomach when you lie down, reflux becomes much more likely.
  • Focus on high-quality, nutrient-dense foods and supplememts rather than processed calorie-restricted products. Your body still needs protein, minerals, healthy fats, fiber, and hydration to function properly. Make sure that Gut Punch, Acid-Kicking Greens, Minerals, and Protein is part of your daily routine.

Remember, weight loss without nourishment is not health—and it will make you sicker in the long-term.

Step 3: Rebuild Your Mineral, Nutrient, and Protein Foundation

This is where most people miss the mark.

Weight gain, cravings, fatigue, poor metabolism, and digestive dysfunction often share a common denominator: nutritional depletion.

Side note: Toxicity and deficiencies are the cause of everything. Read all about WHY right here.

The conversation shouldn't just be about eating less. It should be about giving your body MORE of what it actually needs to thrive.

Minerals are essential for energy production, blood sugar regulation, nervous system balance, stomach acid production, hydration, and healthy digestion. But minerals are only one piece of the puzzle. Your body also needs quality protein to preserve lean muscle and support metabolism, along with nutrient-dense greens that provide phytonutrients, antioxidants, fiber, and key micronutrients.

If you're using a GLP-1 while remaining depleted in minerals, nutrients, and protein, you're treating symptoms without addressing your body’s terrain that contributed to weight gain in the first place.

This is why I encourage my patients to focus on rebuilding their foundation every single day—especially while takingn GLP-1s. This is non-negotiable.

Start with mineral-rich foods and targeted supplementation. My Acid-Kicking Minerals formula helps replenish critical minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium bicarbonate that modern diets often lack. You body literally runs on minerals, and you can get all the details here.

Next, prioritize protein. One of the biggest concerns with rapid weight loss is the loss of lean muscle mass. Muscle is your metabolic engine. That's why I recommend making high-quality protein a daily priority. My Acid-Kicking Plant-Based Protein provides clean, plant-based protein designed to nourish the body while supporting muscle maintenance, satiety, and healthy metabolism.

Finally, flood the body with greens. Most people simply don't consume enough nutrient-dense plants to meet their body's needs. My Acid-Kicking Greens formula delivers concentrated organic greens, vegetables, and superfoods that help support detoxification, digestion, cellular health, and overall vitality.

When you rebuild your mineral, nutrient, and protein foundation, everything works better. Digestion improves. Energy increases. Cravings diminish. Blood sugar becomes more stable. Metabolism becomes more resilient. And most importantly, you're creating a body that can maintain results long after the medication is gone.

Like everything I preach: it is all about ADDING. In this case, ADD minerals, nurtrients, and clean protein to your body so long-lasting weight loss and vitality. This is especially true when takling GLP-1s and getting OFF of them.

Step 4: Use the Weight Loss Window Wisely

As I said above, I am totally fine with using GLP-1s to kickstart your weight loss journey for about a month, but using them for any longer can be dangerous. Take full advantage of this bridge to your destination. The appetite suppression from GLP-1s creates an opportunity.

Use that opportunity of appetite suppression that GLP-1s provide to build habits that will persist even after the medication is gone.

Improve sleep quality. Manage stress. Strength train. Walk daily. Hydrate consistently. Increase vegetable intake. Prioritize protein. Repair your gut. And don’t forget to supplement with a strategy.

These habits (not the medication) are what determine whether the weight stays off.

Too many people focus exclusively on the number on the scale. I focus on creating a body that functions properly—and that can only happen with optimal amounts of nutrients.

Remember: your goal is to use medication to boost your journey, not to depend solely on it.

It’s Time for Total Transformation!

GLP-1 medications can be helpful tools. But they are not magic—and must be used as a short-term jump start ONLY.

The real transformation happens when you use the medication as a bridge while simultaneously fixing the terrain that created the weight gain in the first place.

Focus on minerals. Focus on digestion. Focus on stress. Focus on food quality. Focused on strategic supplementation.

Because lasting health isn't about suppressing appetite forever: It's about creating a body that no longer needs to.
