Summer doesn’t need to be packed with expensive camps, chaotic schedules, airports, or endless screen time to be magical and memorable.
Because deep down we all know that some of the most meaningful memories are often the simplest ones. Days soaked in sunshine, laughter, real food, and genuine connection. These are also the days that plant the seeds of healthy, lifelong habits, which are among the best gifts you will ever give your kids.
This blog post is your invitation to slow down, simplify, and soak in the kind of summer that nourishes your kids’ bodies and their little souls…while keeping things low-stress for you.
1. Farmer’s Market + Picnic
Talking to your local farmer.
Smelling fresh summer flowers.
Watching your kids light up at the taste of bright red strawberries.
Dancing to live music in the sunshine.
Farmers’ markets are a full sensory experience, and they naturally boost serotonin (aka your feel-good hormone).
When you bring your kids along, something magical happens:
They connect with the food. They see where it comes from. They choose it.
Translation: picky eaters suddenly become curious eaters.
Let each kid pick a few items, and at the end of your foodie adventure, gather your loot for a family picnic at the market or a nearby park, lake, ocean, or even your own backyard. Bring a ball to play catch or a frisbee to throw, and just spend time together—screen-free.
At the end of the day, notice how fresh air, real food, and real connection leave everyone feeling calmer, happier, and more grounded.

2. Make “Kid-Loving Cookie Balls” Together
If you want an activity that checks every box: fun, (a little) messy, delicious, and healthy—this is it. Instead of handing your kids processed snacks, let them create their own.
Try this recipe: Kid-Loving Cookie Balls
They are super simple to make, taste like real cookie dough, but are secretly filled with gut and brain-fueling ingredients that make for happier, smarter, and healthier kids!
3. Garden: Raise Food {and Kids} That Thrive
Let’s be real: humans are basically plants with emotions. We need sunshine. Water. Nourishment. Connection to the earth.
Gardening gives your kids something most modern life doesn’t:
- A relationship with their food
- Something to be responsible for
- The joy of watching something grow
And just like with the farmers’ market, kids who grow food are WAY more likely to eat it.
4. DIY Body Wash

This is a “science experiment” that your kids will love and get to actually use!
Check it out: Make Your Own Non-Toxic Body Wash
And if your kids are still in the “I don’t want to take a shower” stage, making their own body wash may finally get them to wash up! It’s also a real-life way to teach your kids what goes on their skin matters, why reducing toxins is important, and that they can be resourceful!
You could also have them set up a stand and sell bottles as their first “business!”
5. Blend Up the “Everything Smoothie”
Need an afternoon treat that actually nourishes you and your kids instead of filling them with food dyes and sugar that makes everyone cranky?
Make The Everything Smoothie together!
Just dump everything in, blend up, and drink outside in the sunshine!
6. Make Granola + Spread the Love
Kids of all ages love making yummy, crunchy granola—and you love that it’s easy to do, meaningful, and healthy!
Make: Almond Butter Protein Granola
From the beginning, tell your kids that we are making this to give away to friends, family, and neighbors. Because now it's not just making granola, it is teaching generosity, connection, and the joy of giving!

This summer, give yourself permission to: slow down, simplify, and choose connection. And that’s all kids truly want and need. Stay tuned for more summer projects, and please send me all your ideas via a DM on Instagram, as I’d love to feature them!
From one momma to another, big hugs from Chelsea!
